Listening to Your Body: The Importance of Rest Days

Whether you’re a newbie just embarking on your fitness journey or a full fledged veteran you should never underestimate the importance of rest days in your fitness routine.

Ensuring that you have scheduled recovery days in your training program is just as crucial to the achievement of your fitness goals, as your work outs.

Why?

  • Resting prevents injury
  • Gives your muscles time to repair and grow
  • It will prevent you from burning out (both physically and mentally)
  • Prevents the negative effects of overtraining
  • Prevents plateaus in your performance

Taking a rest day doesn’t mean you have to be inactive though. Try doing something you can’t always find the time to do or start a new hobby.
